Hi guys! It's only eleven days till this epic!project ends! I have 17 unread entries (better than 22 but not by much :'|) and 24 (twenty-four!!) entries already in the collection. That's 41 entries altogether, which is so awesome. But if I can get just nine more entries... then we'll break 50, which is a pretty darn impressive number. Nine more in eleven days. Can we do it?

That's right. We're writers. We can do anything.

To the poets, the screenwriters, the sketchwriters and the novelists, to writers of any kind: the reason for this journal is to ask you, the members of dA's literature community, for contributions to an epic writers' project. deviantART is an art community, but what a lot of people don't realize is that literature is art too. There are many writers who can say it better than me, and have:

"Of course writing is art. It isn't just throwing up a bunch of words and taping them together, it's a subtle process that takes time and heart."

"[Writing, visual art, and music] take dedication and practice to be any good at it, they come from inspiration, they can inspire, and if the world was without any of these, we would have been better off slitting our wrists."

"Writing isn't about words on a page, it is about the emotion behind them, and the ability of a writer to have their words become more than ink, but a scene of beauty or disaster, and a message that lasts through the ages."

Writing is as much an effort and as much an art as drawing with pencils or painting with acrylics, and I think a mass effort to show dA that we are painters of words is very much in order.

So, here is what I need: any and all of you who write, to write a piece (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prosetry, anything) based on the prompt "writing is not art's plainer sister.". Writing is not art's plainer sister; writing is art itself, and what I need is for you to show this through your piece in the best way you can. Include the prompt any way you like--this isn't a contest, so you've got plenty of creative freedom. xD

All contributions will be featured in my journal and added to the official project collection, and when I've received a good number of pieces I'll put up a news article with links. Also, the good *stormchylde has offered a custom icon to all participants, so if you're not convinced by now, you should be. xD This isn't a contest, so I'm afraid I can't give you much more than that.

tentative deadline is march 31. i don't like to have a deadline, but i have to end it sometime. xD if you feel an extension is needed, i will be more than happy to make accomodations. note or comment if you need more time.

types of writing accepted: any type, that's the point. xD write a poem, or a piece of fiction with the line "writing is not art's plainer sister," or a nonfiction essay. anything you like. you don't even actually have to have the prompt in the piece itself, just use it as inspiration.
all submissions will be accepted and added to the project collection. i will try to leave a comment on each submission, but it may be a bit of a wait, as my inbox is filled to overflowing already. please do note your submission to me, as i'll be much less likely to miss it that way.
